چکیده

Network virtualization opens a promising way to support diverse applications over a shared substrate by running multiple virtual networks. Current virtual data centers in cloud computing have flexible mechanisms to partition compute resources but provide little control over how tenants share the network. This paper proposes a utility-maximization model for bandwidth sharing between virtual networks in the same substrate network. The aim is to improve the fairness of virtual bandwidth allocation for multi tenants, especially for virtual links which share the same physical link and carry nonfriendly traffic. We first given a basic model and then proved the model can be split into many sub models which can run on each rack-switch port. In the sub model, every physical link is associated with a fairness index constraint in maximize utility calculating. The goal is to limit the differences among the bandwidth allocation of the virtual links which share the same physical link. Experimental results show that the virtual bandwidth allocation between tenants is more reasonable.

Implementing fair bandwidth allocation schemes in hose-modelled VPN - Communications, IEE Proceedings-

The virtual private network (VPN) provides customers with predictable and secure network connections over a shared network infrastructure. The recently proposed hose model for VPNs has desirable properties in terms of greater flexibility and better multiplexing gain. However, the ‘classic’ fair bandwidth allocation scheme introduces the issue of low overall utilisation in this model; furthermor...

Sender-driven bandwidth differentiation for transmitting multimedia flows over TCP

Over the years the Internet has shown extraordinary scalability and robustness in spite of the explosive growth in geographical reach, user population size, as well as network traffic volume. This scalability and robustness is, in no small part, supported by the Internet’s transport protocols, the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) in particular. Nevertheless, with the rapid growth of multimed...

Active queue control scheme for achieving approximately fair bandwidth allocation

| We propose a bu®er management mechanism, called V-WFQ (Virtual Weighted Fair Queueing), for achieving approximately fair bandwidth allocation with a small hardware amount in high-speed networks. The basic process for allocating bandwidth fairly uses selective packet dropping to compare the measured input rate of the °ow with an estimated fair bandwidth share. Though V-WFQ is a hardwaree±cient...

Survivable and Bandwidth-Guaranteed Embedding of Virtual Clusters in Cloud Data Centers (Extended Version)

Cloud computing has emerged as a powerful and elastic platform for internet service hosting, yet it also draws concerns of the unpredictable performance of cloud-based services due to network congestion. To offer predictable performance, the virtual cluster abstraction of cloud services has been proposed, which enables allocation and performance isolation regarding both computing resources and ...

A lexicographically fair allocation of discrete bandwidth for multirate multicast traffics

Fair bandwidth allocation is an important issue in the multicast network to serve each multicast traffic at a fair rate commensurate with the receiver’s capabilities and the capacity of the path of the traffic. Lexicographically fair bandwidth layer allocation problem is considered and formulated as a nonlinear integer programming problem. A nonincreasing convex function of the bandwidth layers...
